How does Flamfix 750 work?

Flamfix 750 works by blocking the effect of chemical messengers that cause pain, fever, and inflammation.  Thereby, it helps treat osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Side Effects of Flamfix 750

• Gastrointestinal: Diarrhea, dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, etc.
• Central Nervous System: Dizziness, headache, fatigue, insomnia.
• Dermatologic: Rash, pruritus.
• Special Senses: Tinnitus.
• Miscellaneous: Edema

• Your doctor may advise regular tests to monitor liver and kidney function.
• If you are due to undergo CABG surgery (coronary artery bypass graft, a type of heart surgery), you should not take NABUMETONE right before or right after the surgery.
• Acupuncture, massage, and physical therapy may also be helpful.
• Eat food rich in antioxidants such as berries, spinach, kidney beans, dark chocolate, etc.
• Foods containing flavonoids help in reducing inflammation. These include soy, berries, broccoli, grapes, and green tea.
• Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption.

Indication of Flamfix 750

Nabumetone belongs to a group of medicines called Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs), used to relieve pain, swelling, tenderness, stiffness, and swelling caused by osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Pharmacology

Nabumetone is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic properties. It is a prodrug that undergoes hepatic transformation to its active component, 6-methoxy-2-naphthylacetic acid (6MNA), which inhibits prostaglandin synthesis and contributes to its anti-inflammatory effects.

Dosage & Administration of Flamfix 750

Tablet forms: Nabumetone is available in 500 mg, 750 mg, and 1000 mg tablets.

• 1000 mg Tablet: Mix in a glass (250 ml) of water and drink.
• Osteoarthritis/Rheumatoid Arthritis:
  • Starting dose: 1000 mg daily (with or without food).
  • Some patients may benefit from doses up to 1500-2000 mg per day.
  • Dosages greater than 2000 mg/day have not been studied.
  • Use the lowest effective dose for chronic treatment.
• Renal Insufficiency:
  • Moderate: Maximum starting dose of 750 mg/day.
  • Severe: Maximum starting dose of 500 mg/day.
  • Doses can be increased to a maximum of 1500 mg (moderate) or 1000 mg (severe) daily, with close renal monitoring.
• Pediatric Patients: Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established.

Interaction

Interaction with Alcohol

• Consumption of alcohol during treatment with this medicine is not recommended due to the increased risk of serious side effects such as severe gastrointestinal bleeding, dizziness, fatigue, and weakness.

Interaction with Medicines

• Prasugrel
• Adefovir
• Deferasirox
• Sirolimus
• Dalteparin

Disease Interactions

• Asthma: Not recommended for patients with a history of NSAID-sensitive or aspirin-sensitive asthma. Consult your doctor for suitable alternatives.
• Fluid retention and edema: This medicine may cause fluid retention and edema in some patients. Monitoring of blood pressure, electrolyte levels, and heart function may be necessary. Dose adjustments or alternative treatments might be required.
• Skin rash: Nabumetone may cause severe skin allergies (e.g., rashes, hives, fever). Immediate medical attention is required in case of such symptoms.
• Renal Dysfunction: Should be used cautiously in patients with kidney diseases. Regular monitoring of renal function is advised, and dosage adjustments or alternatives may be necessary.
• Thrombosis: Prolonged use may increase the risk of heart attack and stroke. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest time. Patients with thrombotic risk should be closely monitored, and additional antiplatelet medications may be needed.
• Anemia: Nabumetone may lower hemoglobin and hematocrit levels, especially in patients with anemia. Regular blood monitoring is recommended, with dose adjustments or alternatives as needed.
• Hyperkalemia: Use cautiously due to the risk of increased potassium levels, especially in patients with kidney disease. Potassium levels should be monitored regularly.
• Gastro-Intestinal Toxicity: Long-term use may cause damage to the stomach, intestines, or liver. Symptoms like chronic indigestion, blood in stool, or vomiting require immediate medical attention. Dosage changes or alternative treatments may be necessary.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to nabumetone or its excipients.
• History of asthma, urticaria, or allergic reactions to aspirin or other NSAIDs.
• Contraindicated in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy Category C: Use during pregnancy only if needed. Not recommended during the third trimester due to risks to the fetal cardiovascular system.
• Lactation: Not recommended for nursing mothers.

Precautions & Warnings

NSAIDs have been associated with renal toxicity and reduced renal blood flow, especially in patients with compromised renal function, heart failure, liver dysfunction, or those taking diuretics. Discontinuation often leads to recovery.
